  • Child Development Associate (CDA) required. Bachelor’s Degree (B.S/B.A) preferred.
  • One year of experience with behavioral support evaluation and services for children birth to five years of age.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing is preferred Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with both children and adults.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment and/or periodic physical examination, TB skin test, and complete background check every 24 months.

  • Must be able to walk at a fast pace for extended periods of time.
  • Participate and incorporate brisk ten (10) minute walks with children into daily routine/lesson plans.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able frequently to twist, turn, kneel, bend and stoop multiple times per day.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor and interact with small children.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities with children.
  • Must be able to monitor children’s safety in all activities.


Responsibilities:

The Early Childhood Interventionist will:

  • Provide assistance to children with behavior or diagnosed disabilities, to include campus changes as assigned.
  • Provides classroom support to include classroom management and environmental interventions that support social-emotional well-being of the children
  • Communicates with teaching staff regarding progress and regressions
  • Develops and maintain relationship-based collaborations with parents of children with special needs to promote a positive environment, and assistance with transition.
  • Provides support to teaching staff for behavior management, to include modeling appropriate behavior strategies and conducting child observations
  • Recommend and demonstrate strategies for supporting the children’s social-emotional needs in the classroom.
  • Coordinate with Mental Health Specialist as appropriate to provide strategies to teaching teams and families.
  • Help arrange a physical environment in which children can work and play safely.
  • Demonstrates the implantation of learning experiences that support IEP/IFSP’s plan goals
  • Collaborate with LEA’s representatives and CCA Coaches regarding child concerns/IEP-IFSP in ISD’s partnerships
  • Supports the Head Start philosophy that promotes and values parent participation and individualization of children in a classroom setting.
  • Model implantation of Conscious Discipline strategies within the classroom setting
  • Provides hands-on support for children with behaviors that interfere with their ability to participate comfortably and appropriately in classroom routines or pose a safety or health risk to themselves or others using Conscious Discipline strategies.
  • Provide hands-on support and coaching for teachers when there are significant behavioral or social-emotional concerns, using Conscious Discipline strategies.
  • Provides guidance and support to teaching staff in order to improve the skills and interactions of classroom management for children with challenging behaviors.
  • Travels to assigned Head Start/ Early Head Start, Child Development Centers, and ISD’s to work with teachers and families to address areas of developmental concern.
  • ECI’s are responsible for the children’s social-emotional well-being in the classroom. His/her role is to implement positive behavior support strategies in the classroom, on the playground.
  • The ECI will work in partnership with the Classroom Teachers, and will work closely with the MHD Specialists, and the students’ families to ensure the optimal development of each child.
  • Communicates effectively with MHD Specialist, MHD Manager and upper management to problem solve difficult issues.
  • Collaborates and maintains positive working relationships with fellow CCA employees and with partner community organizations.
  • Supports documentation of developmental progress as it relates to interventions, IEP, and IFSP goals for children.
  • Conducts monthly general developmental observations of group interactions and behavior trends.
  • Prepare or assist with preparing supplies and materials in advance for individual behavior support use by children when transitioning from one activity to another.
  • Implements Active Supervision Strategies.
  • Follows all health and safety requirements outline within the Head Start Program Performance Standards including, Child Abuse and Neglect, Release of Children, appropriate child guidance strategies, and Standards of Conduct.
  • Assist in maintaining children areas in a neat, sanitary and orderly condition, which may include some cleaning, sweeping and/or mopping in the classroom areas.
  • Must participate in 20 hours of training per year in understanding children and improving delivery of childcare services.
  • Responsible for interacting and communicating with parents, coworkers and supervisors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Is well versed on Head Start Program Performance Standards, IDEA, and the minimum licensing standards.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
