Mental Health/Disabilities Manager

Position Overview

The Mental Health/Disabilities Manager will monitor and coordinate efforts to ensure that comprehensive services are effectively executed by all staff who directly serve children in the EHS/HS program. The Mental Health/Disabilities Manager will report directly to the Chief Early Education Officer and work closely with the Head Start Leadership. The Mental Health/Disabilities Manager will: 

  •  Maintain general oversight of program functions in the Mental Health and Disability Content Areas.
  •  Work effectively with community partners to build strong effective collaborations that provide effective high quality service delivery to children and families.
  • Direct and manage implementation of Head Start Performance Standards in the areas of disabilities and mental health.
  •  Ensure that the program meets the standard of 10% enrollment of children with identified special needs each program year. 
  • Have knowledge of community and program resources to support staff in referring families for needed services.
  •  Ensure staff are trained and knowledgeable of Performance Standards, Policies and Procedures, referrals to community partners and access of community services in regards to children with identified special needs.
  • Provide strategies to prevent and defuse disruptive behavior to staff.
  •  Provide training and assistance to staff to implement strategies in the classroom.
  • Respect and support cultural differences and diverse family structures.
  •  Identify programmatic barriers that prohibit optimal development of parents as their child’s teacher and aid in the development of strategies to remove those barriers.
  • Assist with the Annual Program Information Report (PIR) 
  •  Provide assistance to the data team with the annual Self-Assessment as needed. 
  • Coordinate all areas of mental health services and ensure implementation of mental health programming through positive relationships.
  • Track data related to the delivery of services to children with special needs or mental health issues.
  • Maintain adequate communication with the Head Start Leadership team in monitoring and reporting performance as it relates to Mental Health/Disabilities Child Services.
  •  Provide regular monitoring and oversight of required data to maintain required benchmarks.
  •  Develop and/or maintain working relationships with Community Agencies and ISD Collaborations.
  • Oversee and support staff in development of Content Area Plans and budgeting as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social WorkSpecial Education, Certified Registered Nurse or closely related field
  •  Previous management experience; 
  •  Demonstrate leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of personnel, parents & children;
  • Access to insured and reliable transportation; 
  •  Computer proficiency required, as well as the ability to utilize Technology as an effective management and communication tool. 
  •  Must be able to pass a pre-employment and/or periodic physical examination, annual TB skin test, and complete background check every 24 months.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Master’s Degree; Vocational Licensure;
  • Non-profit experience in the areas of program area of education, children/family services and/or children with disabilities.
  •  Previous Management experience

Physical Requirements
  • Repetitive use of hands; reaching and turning; 
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; light lifting of supplies and materials;
